The Weekly #8

We're back with a latest edition of The Weekly in a week where all eyes were on the Nvidia earnings call, Salesforce are pushing Agentforce and Perplexity goes shopping.

Nvidia Shares Go Down and Up

Last week saw the AI chip maker released their third-quarter earnings to the market with revenues up on Q2 by 17% to $35.1 billion, and up 112% from a year ago. Impressive. Or is it? The share price dropped as much as 3% on this news as, despite beating forecasts, this was the were the weakest results since January 2023. Clearly, investors are starting to wonder if the numbers are beginning to peak. There is also a lot of focus on their next product, Blackwell, which has seen reports of it overheating when used in large racks, something that could spook potential buyers.

However, make no mistake that Nvidia is still one of the most important companies (and also the biggest) in the world right now and as such, faces a level of scutinay others may not.

Agentforce Hackathon

If you've not heard, AI Agents are the hottest thing right now. All the big players are making major moves trying to position their solutions as the market leaders. Salesforce is at the heart of this with their product, Agentforce. Last week they held a number of hackathon's at their Agentforce Tour roadshows. No doubt this is a great way to show of the product capabilities, but also build out the community of developers and fans Salesforce are known for. This is genuinely going to be one of the most interesting areas to watch as the Enterprise turns to AI for real use cases.

Google, Perplexity.ai is Coming For You

The big G has enjoyed a stranglehold over web search since they launched in 1998. Reaching three billion users by 2011, their success has had very little competition (sorry, Bing). However, it now seems like they could be facing new challenges from AI search company Perplexity. Perplexity has offered an AI search product from the very beginning, but this was expanded last week with the launch of a number of Shopping features. Those with a Pro subscription in the United States, will now get the option to 'buy' directly from relevant results without evening leaving the site. Products are pulled from the merchant's Shopify feed.

Admittedly, there is some way to go before anyone de-thrones Google, but again, it's fascinating to see new AI companies come and challenge.
