Is 2025 the year of Agentic AI?
There's certainly a lot of promise, but the reality is more finely balanced.

When I worked in digital advertising, there was a time when the phrase "this is the year of the mobile" was uttered in almost every conversation. It turned out that we were still saying it whilst not realising it had already arrived. The technology had seeped into our lives so surreptitiously that we barely noticed it. We're just about to see a parallel with "the year of agentic AI". According to a recent IBM piece, 2025 is it.
However, it seems there's still a bit of work to be done before we're fully there. The article talks a lot about the potential, and cites a survey of 1,000 developers, where 99% of them said they are exploring or developing AI agents, but that's far from having solutions deployed in enterprise environments.
2025 sounds like it will be an interesting year for agentic AI development, but we should add a level of realism in thinking real solutions will be commonplace in the next 10 months.
